In my opinion, Freedom of Speech is the most important right in the Constitution. Because of this right, I can say that I think it’s the most important! It is protected by the First Amendment, which was ratified to the Constitution on December 15th of 1791. Freedom of Speech lets you say what you feel about things, without getting thrown in jail. People can say what they think is fair, unfair, stupid, or cool. They can talk freely about what they do and do not like. For example, someone could say they don’t like the color red, but love blue. It makes everyone different and unique because of their different thoughts they express. Imagine life where you could only say what everyone else thought. Everyone would say they liked the same foods, colors, or numbers. The country would be pretty boring. Freedom of Speech lets you express yourself, debate, and stand up for what you think is right. The Government cannot make any laws taking away your freedom of what you say, but it does have limits. At school, they don’t allow you to say certain things, but you can never get in extremely serious trouble for saying you agree or disagree with the Government or President. People don’t always realize how important speaking their mind is. Most of the time people don’t even think about what they’re saying because they can’t be punished for expressing their thoughts and feelings. Because you can’t speak your mind at almost any time, people can have disagreements, conversations, their own opinions, and their own favorite or least favorite things. Everyone has the right to agree or disagree with things and say it out loud. The Government cannot take any rights away regarding the rights of speaking freely. Congress also can’t make any laws saying you can’t say what you think. You can have favorite things, people, colors, foods, and numbers and tell people about them all because of Freedom of Speech! I am thankful we have it because it is one of the most important rights in the whole Constitution.
